Meeting Minutes September 2013
Sept. WLA meeting minutes
1. corrections..... please correct the following on the August minutes.... The 1000 walleyes are going into lake Winter, not Barber lake...... also WNWW gave $500 for the kids fishing contest, not $700.. sorry for any confusion..
2. call to order by Jim , the pledge and our special speaker
3. Max Wolter, WDNR (he replaced Frank Pratt) provided alot of information concerning fisheries in Wisconsin, and in particular... information in the Sawyer county area including our 4 lakes. some of the highlights include: the stocking of walleyes not to exceed 10 fish per acre, these fish are 5-7 inches. The stocking will be done in our WLA lakes every other year.. Max also feels that the Wisc. walleye iniative (Gov. Walkers stocking increase) will greatly benefit the area lakes. One of the many projects the WDNR is involved with is fisheries lake planning growth rates. The lakes in our area are showing very good growth with an example of walleyes in Barber Lake growing to 20 inches by the 4th year... Muskies on the other hand will reach 40 inches in 10 years.. Discussion of Blaisdell lake and Hunter lake and the issue of fish moving up and down the river... 'Stocked fish may end up anyplace in the System and that is not all bad as the fish will be somewhere, just not maybe where they were stocked.
4. Our meeting was the longest of the year, felt like the shortest as the discussions and question and answer session went by so quickly with lots of great information.... Max's presentation was finally ended as we were running out of time ....hope you can make it next time
5. picnic went great.... Our raffle made a profit of $ 849. 70... really good... we are ending the year with over$ 1300 in our checking account.. best year $$$ wise in awhile.. thanks for everyone's hard work and support
6. discussed possible fund raising ideas.... T-shirts?? sweatshirts?? We are also looking to purchase T-shirts for the 25th anniversary of WLA for our 2014 kids fishing contest... Debbie designed a great logo... about $5 to $6 dollars a shirt... could be purchased by members too or sold at our summer booths
7. Board of directors... We need some new people... elections to be held at the Oct. meeting
8. next meeting is scheduled for 10:00 on Sat. Oct. 5th, 2013 hope to see you there....
respectfully submitted, Rick Hasselquist
